Anime Basics for Noobs

So you're interested in learning about Anime and don't know where to start...  well here's some information that can get you started....

What is anime???

Anime is an animated art form typically from Japan or Korea.  It usually targets an audience older than the cartoons aired in the United States and some are even specially for adults.

How often are they aired?

Just like television series found in the US, new episodes are usually aired at the same time every week.  Once they are aired, many hard-working, under-appreciated workers perform some difficult translations and timing so us, non-Japanese speaking folk can enjoy the episodes as well.  This translation and update process usually takes about a week.  So the latest episodes are available one week after they are aired.

When do the new series start?

Seasons can run quarterly (12 or 13 episodes) usually starting in January, April, July, and October;
Semi-annually (25 or 26 episodes) typically start in January or July; or annually (52 episodes per year) starting in the same months as the quarterly runs.

What is an arc?

An arc is several episodes within a season that is dedicated to a specific story line that may or may not be incorporated into the main story line for that season.

Questions???

If you have any questions, put them in the comments and I'll update if I can provide an answer.
